Three Toronto Blue Jays Poised for Breakout Seasons
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off of a rather disappointing season. Losing in a wildcard series to the Minnesota Twins was not what this team was looking for. Is this the season the Toronto Blue Jays go on a deeper playoff run? The loss of third baseman Matt Chapman makes way for some other players to have an important effect on the team. Today we will be looking at three Toronto Blue Jays poised for breakout seasons in 2024.

Jose Berrios Can Put It All Together in 2024

First up, is one of the Toronto Blue Jays starting pitchers. Fans were livid when John Schneider removed Jose Berrios in game two of the wildcard series last year. He was cruising through three innings with five strikeouts and just one earned run. It is expected that Jose Berrios can build off of that start and have a great year in 2024. We know what the pitcher is capable of, he was an all-star in 2018 and 2019 with the Minnesota Twins. Not to mention that he also won a gold glove award last year as the Toronto Blue Jays were the top defensive team in 2023. All Jose Berrios needs to do is put it all together in 2024.

Cavan Biggio

Next up, we have utility player Cavan Biggio. As the season progressed last year, Biggio became more and more of an important player for the Toronto Blue Jays. He was extremely reliable when third baseman Matt Chapman got injured down the stretch. With the departure of Chapman, expect Biggio to get more of an opportunity this year.

There were times in 2023 when Biggio was hitting fourth in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup as he was showing so much promise. His patience at the plate and consistent fielding make him a valuable player for this team. Expect a confident year from the utility player in 2024.

Daulton Varsho

Last but not least, we have outfielder Daulton Varsho. There is no doubt that he struggled mightily at the plate last year. That said, he led Major League Baseball with 29 defensive runs saved in 2023. His outstanding fielding made him a useful player even with his brutal offensive season.

It is safe to say that Varsho focused greatly on his offensive game in the offseason. The outfielder is looking for a bounce-back year while continuing his consistent defending. He was misused early last season having him hit fourth in the lineup. This early struggle may have caused some lack of confidence in the hitter. Being more comfortable in Toronto and hopefully being used correctly in the lineup, Daulton Varsho looks for a breakout season in 2024.

Do you think these Toronto Blue Jays are poised for breakout seasons? The Toronto Blue Jays kick off their season on March 28th against the Tampa Bay Rays.
