Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles extended a star wide receiver in the same month the team extended DeVonta Smith, which will cut into cap space for the rest of the roster. Smith was set to make the same salary per year as WR1 A.J. Brown. Not long after Smith got his payday, Brown’s agent was negotiating with the Eagles for a raise.

Brown’s contract was set to last through the 2026 season. But the Eagles took care of business with minutes to go before the 2024 NFL Draft, ending speculation the All-Pro wide receiver would be traded before or during the weekend.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Eagles extended Brown for another three years for $96 million. He is guaranteed $84 million on a contract that will last through the 2029 season. He’ll now be the highest paid receiver in the league.

The Eagles are spending a lot of money to make sure another investment the team poured money into last offseason, quarterback Jalen Hurts, has weapons to throw to in Philadelphia.
