In recent months, the notion of several young Spanish players playing at both Euro 2024 and the Paris 2024 Olympics has been floated. Among those that could be called up for both tournaments are Barcelona pair Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, as well Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.

All three could end up playing major roles for Spain in Germany, as La Roja go for their third European Championship title. It that proves to be the case, they will be excused from playing at the Olympics later in the summer.

As reported by Estadio Deportivo, the Spanish Football Federation have promised Barcelona and Athletic that they will not “squeeze” Lamine Yamal, Cubarsi and Williams this summer, as they did with Pedri in 2021. If they are important at Euro 2024, they won’t be at the Olympics – but if they are not relied upon heavily by Luis de la Fuente, they will join Santi Denia’s squad in Paris.

This will ease the concerns some of the concerns held by both clubs, and especially Barcelona, especially that Lamine Yamal and Cubarsi are 16 and 17 respectively. However, it does mean that they will play a significant amount of football this summer, regardless of whether that’s in Germany or Paris.
